Canyon Walk

A few years ago my husband and I travelled through five of the National Parks in the western United States.  This painting is of an amazing sight while hiking through one of the parks in Utah.

Chrysanthemum in Green Vase

This little painting was done in class by the "wipe out" method.   It was lots of fun to do.                                   12" x 9"

Pewter Pitcher and Oranges

The pewter pitcher, which is the subject of this still life painting, was a wedding gift to my husband's parents many years ago.  It has suffered a few scratches and dents over the years; these only give it more character and made ot much more interesting to paint.

Joanne

This portrait was done at the request of the husband of a   friend of mine.  Her first reaction was that I had made her rather "spanish looking".  In any event, it was a fun portrait to do, and the fact that she is quite striking looking in real life made her all the more interesting to paint.

My Sister

This painting was done from a photograph of my beautiful sister on her wedding day.   It's done in black and white and Torrit Grey.

Four Ladies

This painting was inspired by a photograph brought back from France by a friend of mine. It is quite large (30 inches x 40 inches) and was a lot of fun to do.

Carnations/workshop

I recently took a workshop at the studio where I take lessons. Gene Prokop gave this workshop on carnations. It was a great learning experience.

Abandoned House

Ron Richardson is a wonderful photographer. He has published three books of his photographs that I am aware of and have in my collection. This painting is based on a photograph of an abandoned house on the prairies which had eventually been converted to a granary and then abandoned again. Mr. Richardson was kind enough to give me permission to do this painting from the photograph in "....it's just Prairie Too".

Retired

My husband is a recently retired hockey player. His skates have done well for him over the years and I feel that they have acquired a certain character that deserves to be preserved on canvas.

Ross Lake

This painting is based on a photograph taken at
Ross Lake, south of Hope, B.C. in 2009. That is my daughter-in-law again in the kayak. She and my son venture to many beautiful places and take great photographs.

Kitty

This is our cat, "Kitty". She was found as a stray a few years ago and answered to "Kitty", so we still call her that.

Grandmother

I found a very old black and white photo of my grandmother on her wedding day, which we believe was around 1910, somewhere in Ontario. It was a challenge to recreate it in oils.

Hallowe'en

This painting is from a photograph I took of the three oldest of my children many years ago. The photo is fading, so the children thought it should be painted for posterity!

The Winner

My daughter-in-law is a runner. This painting was done for her from several photographs of the same race, run on a very rainy day in Nova Scotia. She won, of course!

Sunflower

This painting was done for one of my daughters and was inspired by several sunflower photographs taken by my other daughter. However, it was based on a photograph provided by a friend of mine in my art class.
It is painted on a 20 inch by 30 inch canvas.

Mont Blanc #2

This is another of Robert and Annick's Mont Blanc pictures.....different view. I couldn't resist doing another one. The colors are beautiful.

Mont Blanc #1

My son, Robert, took the photograph on which this painting is based, while vacationing last year in Europe. He and Annick hiked around Mont Blanc and got some gorgeous photographs.

Brass Bowl and Fruit

I painted this still life at a workshop given by Gene Prokop.
It is one of my favorites.

Hydrangeas

My sister took this photograph of these beautiful hydrangeas given to her by a friend.
She thought I might like to paint them, and I did.

Edmonton Summer

I painted this for the daughter of a friend of ours,
for her wedding. She is going to be living in the
States, so her mother thought it would be nice for
her to have something to remind her of
Edmonton. This is based on a photograph, taken
by her mother, of one of the trails in the river
valley. I understand that this trail was a favorite
running trail of hers.

Pharaoh

We had Black Labs for many years. The first one we called "Pharaoh" and the picture this was based on is as good a likeness of him as I could find.

Boy with a Dory

I painted this from a photograph by Bob Brooks, a photographer from Nova Scotia, and friend of my daughter-in-law, Annick. It is from his collection entitled "Yarmouth County".
This painting is hanging on Annick and Robert's (my son) wall in Kelowna, British Columbia.

Farming at Sunset

This painting was done from another photograph by Sherman Hines in his book "Alberta".

Still Life with Pewter Tea Pot

This was my second ever oil painting at Pro's Art. I learned so much doing this painting. I loved the see through aspect of the vases and the reflections on the tea pot. It was a lot of fun to do.

Onion and Plums

This onion was so intriguing to paint that I actually did two more of the same subject.

Old Man at Work

I saw a photograph of this in the National Geographic and thought the colors worked so well together.

Gerald's Truck

I painted this for a friend who builds these giant trucks which are rigged for drilling and usually end up in the deserts overseas. He loved his trucks and wanted to have the painting for his office.

Statue in the Marketplace

My husband and I were in New Mexico several years ago and one early morning took this photograph of a beautiful statue in the centre of a marketplace before many people arrived to shop.

First Jack O'Lantern

The grandsons designed their own jack o'lantern one Hallowe'en and were very proud to display it on their front steps.

The Lesson

I came upon this black and white photograph of a mother and child at a First Nations festival in Ontario. The colors are from my own imagination and so I make no claim as to their correctness.

Brothers on the Farm

This painting was done from a black and white photograph
of my husband and his brother on their grandfather's farm
near Rosetown, Saskatchewan.

Roosters on the Ledge

My mother in Regina wanted an original of mine and loves bright colors in her kitchen. So, when I came across this photograph of a window ledge of a pub in Ireland taken by my son, Robert, I painted it for her.

Original oil  12 x 16

Grand Canyon

This was from a photograph taken by my husband on a trip to 6 of the National Parks in the western USA. It was my first painting sold.

Still Life with Wedding Rings

My daughter, Laura, and her husband, Jon, were married just before this painting was done. They wanted a picture set in their home with their favorite wines and their wedding rings. This painting hangs in their living room.

Saskatchewan Skyline

My parents come from the Swift Current area of Saskatchewan. This is the view of the elevators of the Village of Neville, as they were then. They have since disappeared.

Cheeta

My daughter Chris's cat
in her favorite spot.

Jesse

Jesse is a beautiful yellow Lab and belongs to my daughter-in-law, Christine, and my two grandchildren, Joshua and Daniel. The painting was done when Jesse was very young.

Tulips and a Happy Sky

This painting was done at the special request of my daughter, Laura, who loves tulips and blue summer skies. It was painted from a photograph taken by her and is on a large 36 x 40 inch canvas. It graces the wall in her dining room.

Hockey Practice

Another painting from the Bob Brooks collection of photographs from the Yarmouth area.

Fallen Beauty

This painting was done from a photograph from Bob Brooks' book: a large piece of driftwood lying amongst forest flowers and reflecting their colors.

Deep Woods

This painting was done from a photograph taken by my son Brian in Kananaskis Country. I tried a new method here: as the subject is quite dark I started by painting the entire canvas black and used the "wipe out" method.

My grandson, Daniel, became the subject of a painting one summer day when he seemed to be enjoying himself.
